Have Your
Say on the Tram
Should Palmerston North
develop a renewable energy, eco-friendly, mass people carrying
vehicle such as the Tram?
That is the
question being asked in an impromptu poll being undertaken on the Palmerston
North City Council website, www.pncc.govt.nz.
The poll is at the
request of the Manawatu Tram Trust Incorporated, a group of local business and
community identities who are planning to build a renewable energy source, no
carbon emission, eco-friendly public transport vehicle in Manawatu.
Their intention is
to develop a park and ride service for morning and evening commuters and to
offer a similar park and ride service around The Square during the rest of the
day for shoppers and office workers.
Following
extensive research over a number of years, the Trust has identified their best
option is to design and build the vehicle locally, while working in conjunction
with international partners utilising battery and drive technology that is still
under development. The Trusts thinking
is ground-breaking, which is showing through in the calibre of international
manufacturers and developers who are keen to involve themselves with the
Manawatu Tram project.
The Manawatu Tram
Trust has launched a simple yes-no-undecided poll running on the Palmertson
North City Council website which people are invited to visit and have their
opinion for or against the Tram.
While this poll
will give an indication of the publics feeling on the Tram project, the Tram
Trustees are also keen for further feedback or expressions of interest in the
project and invite any queries or comments to be emailed to the Manawatu Tram
Project publicist Jon Hogan at jon@jonhogan.co.nz
Take this
opportunity to say yea or nay to the Manawatu Tram Project, visit www.pncc.govt.nz and follow the link to the
Tram project poll.
